Most of the known trekking routes in Toraja are located in the areas around Rantepao and Makale. However, feel free to go off the beaten track and roam around the areas far away from any paved roads. On any hike or trek, make sure to ask the permission of the head of the village you wish to camp or stay overnight in, boil your water before drinking or cooking with it and don’t leave any non-organic waste behind.
